Ying Kei was called to the Bar in 2019 upon completion of her pupillage with Mr. Bruce C. H. Tse S.C., Mr. Paul C. L. Leung, Mr. Enzo W. H. Chow, Mr. Simon S. Wong, and Ms. Vivian W. M. Wong. She is developing a broad civil and criminal practice and accepts instructions in all areas of work.
With a multidisciplinary background in law, psychology, counselling, and education, Ying Kei specializes in handling cases involving juveniles, persons with mental health challenges, and persons with diverse needs and abilities. With a focus on criminal litigation, she has appeared at different levels of Court as a sole advocate and a led junior, accumulating rich experience that spans across different stages of the criminal process from attending legal visits and house-searches to conducting trials and appeals in court.
Alongside, Ying Kei is a part-time lecturer at the Lingnan Institution of Further Education and the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, teaching Psychology and Law-related courses. She also regularly delivers Continuing professional development (CPD) training and public education seminars for various institutions and organizations on criminal procedures, discrimination laws, and mental health law.

黃大律擁有法律、心理學、精神健康輔導及教育的跨專業學歷、資歷和經驗，擅長為青少年及有不同精神健康挑戰及精神行為能力的人辯護。黃大律專攻刑事訴訟，曾於各級法院處理涉及不同刑事罪行的審訊及上訴案件，累積了豐富的刑事訴訟經驗，覆蓋不同階段的刑事調查、檢控及訴訟程序。

Notable Cases and Experience
HKSAR v LAI Ka Ying & Others, WKCC1476/2024:
Represented the 3rd and 4th Defendant at trial and achieved an acquittal to the charges of “Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm”. Successfully challenged the available evidence.
HKSAR v YUAN Qunhui, TMCC2579/2023:
Represented the Defendant charged with “Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm”. The Defendant pleaded guilty on the day of trial and was sentenced to a fine. Successfully resisted the activation of a suspended sentence upon substantial mitigation submission on her exceptional circumstances.
HKSAR v L.N.G., WKCC2156/2023:
Represented the Defendant with Mild Grade Intellectual Disability, ASD and ADHD charged with “Indecent assault”. The Defendant’s fitness to plead was disputed. Successfully persuaded the Prosecution to withdraw the charge by way of O.N.E. through written representations.
HKSAR v Lam Lok Hin, KTCC159/2023:
Represented the Defendant at trial and successfully persuaded the prosecution to withdraw the charge of “Indecent assault” half way through the Defence’s cross examination of the alleged victim of the case. The evidence and credibility of the alleged victim has been rigorously challenged.
HKSAR v Umbao Shaira Joy Gatalla, WKCC1163/2022:
Represented the Defendant at trial and achieved an acquittal to two of the three charges of “Wilful assault causing injury to a child”. Successfully casted doubt on the available evidence.
HKSAR v L.Y.L., KTCC1220/2022:
First criminal case on Insulting National Anthem. Appeared as junior to Mr. Carter Chim for the Defendant with Gender Dysphoria and Intellectual Disability. The Defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 3 months’ imprisonment upon mitigation.
HKSAR v S.W.C., DCCC109/2022:
Appeared as junior to Mr. Steven Kwan for the Defendant with Paranoid Schizophrenia and Borderline Intelligence charged with “Riot” at pre-trial stage. The Defendant has been certified as unfit to plead due to his mental health challenge. Successfully persuaded the court to dispose of the case unconditionally.
HKSAR v *, ESCC700019/2020:
Successfully argued for the case to be tried at Juvenile Court when the Defendant turned 16 after plea and before trial. Represented the juvenile Defendant at trial and achieved an acquittal to a charge of “Riot” with costs to the Defence. Successfully challenged the identity of the suspect through challenging the reliability of the material CCTV footage and the identification evidence of the key police officer witness.
HKSAR v L.K.W., HCCP665/2021:
Represented the Defendant with Tic Disorder, ASD and ADHD in a contested bail review application at the Court of First Instance. Successfully persuaded the Court to quash the Magistrate’s order of obtaining pre-sentence suitability reports for various Centres, and to grant the Defendant bail pending sentence.
HKSAR v C.C.M., KTCC866/2021:
Represented the mentally incapacitated and nonverbal Defendant charged with “Loitering”. The Defendant has been certified as unfit to plead due to his moderate grade Intellectual Disability and ASD. Successfully persuaded the Prosecution to withdraw the charge through written representations.
HKSAR v N.H.M. [2021] HKCFI 2223:
Represented the Appellant at trial and appeared as junior to Mr. Franco Kuan for the subsequent appeal. Successfully overturned the conviction for the charge of “Behaving in a disorderly manner in a public place”, and successfully resisted an application for retiral by the Prosecution.
HKSAR v C.K.W., FLCC1625/2020:
Represented the underage Defendant with learning disabilities at trial and achieved an acquittal to a charge of “Possession of offensive weapon in public place” in respect of a laser pointer. Successfully ran a defence of “reasonable excuse” and challenged the credibility of the key police officer witness.
HKSAR v T.Y.C., KCCC2761/2020:
Represented the mentally incapacitated Defendant charged with 6 counts of “Loitering”. The Defendant has been certified as not fit to plead due to his developmental delay, borderline intellectual functioning, ASD and ADHD. Successfully argued for bail upon review after 8 days of incarceration and eventually resisted a Supervision and Treatment Order sought by the Prosecution upon substantial submission arguing against the recommendation of two Psychiatrists.
香港特別行政區 訴 黃錦全 [2021] HKDC 434:
Represented the Defendant charged with “Arson with intent”, “Possession of corrosive substances”, and “Possession of instruments fit for unlawful purpose”. The Defendant pleaded guilty to all charges and was granted additional sentence discount on humanitarian ground upon mitigation.
Secretary for Justice v Wong Pik Wan [2021] HKCFI 771:
Appeared as junior to Mr. Paul Harris S.C. and Mr. Jeffrey Tam for the Respondent. Successfully resisted the SJ’s application to revoke the Respondent’s bail.
HKSAR v A.Y.W., KCCC2370/2020:
First criminal case on doxing police at magistrate’s level. Appeared as junior to Mr. Lawrence Lok S.C. and Mr. Geoffrey Yeung for the Defendant with Depression. The Defendant pleaded guilty to two charges and was sentenced to a Community Service Order upon substantial mitigation submissions on the significance of the prevalence of offence and the relevance of comparable civil contempt cases.
HKSAR v Ho Ho Ting, TMCC1194/2020 (D4):
Represented the 4th Defendant at trial and achieved an acquittal to a charge of “Possession of things with intent to destroy or damage property” in respect of a range of car-repairing tools. Successfully ran a defense of “reasonable excuse” and challenged the chain of evidence.
HKSAR v Cheung Wang Lok, ESCC1126/2020:
Represented the Defendant at trial and achieved an acquittal to a charge of “Resisting a police officer” with costs to the Defence. Successfully challenged the credibility of the alleged victim police officer.
HKSAR v N.Y.H., FLCC89/2020 & ESCC1018/2020:
Represented the Defendant with Genetic Disorder, developmental delays and ASD in both cases and successfully asked for joinder of charges. The Defendant pleaded guilty to all charges and was granted additional sentence discount on humanitarian ground upon substantial mitigation submissions on the relevance of his inborn disabilities on his culpability and rehabilitation needs.
HKSAR v Lee Sheung Chun, STCC406/2020 (D2):
Represented the 2nd Defendant at trial and achieved an acquittal to a charge of “Assaulting a police officer” with costs to the Defence. Successfully ran a defence of self-defence and challenged the credibility of the alleged victim police officer.
